P1-167 | Automated DNA Extraction Enhances Salmonella Quantification Across Diverse Food Matrices
Automation is transforming how we approach Salmonella quantification.
The study validated an automated DNA extraction platform within the GENE-UP® QUANT Salmonella MPN–qPCR workflow and demonstrated accurate, reproducible Salmonella quantification across beef and poultry matrices. Results were statistically equivalent to the reference method, showing that automation can reduce hands-on work and improve laboratory efficiency without compromising reliability.

P1-173 | Rapid Pathogen Screening in Beef: 4-Hour Molecular Detection of Salmonella and STEC Using MicroTally Cloth Sampling with GENE-UP®
This study demonstrated that a 4-hour enrichment and GENE-UP® molecular workflow with automated DNA extraction can rapidly and accurately detect Salmonella and E. coli O157:H7 from MicroTally cloth samples. Results showed 100% agreement with reference culture methods, enabling faster screening and earlier food safety decision-making.
Key takeaway: A 4-hour enrichment followed by molecular screen using automated extraction provides equivalent detection to reference methods, enabling processors to prioritize containment and root-cause investigations ahead of culture confirmation.

Produce growers and processors face ongoing challenges from pathogenic E. coli contamination. This study demonstrates how the GENE UP® Pathogenic E. coli (PEC) assay can rapidly identify high-risk EHEC strains in raw onions by targeting pathogenicity genes highly correlated with the co-location of virulence genes.
Key takeaway: The GENE-UP® PEC assay delivered highly accurate pathogen detection with 100% agreement to reference confirmation methods while helping to reduce unconfirmed positives.
