Speaker

Amanda Roth photo.JPG

Amanda Roth, PhD, PMP, MLS(ASCP),

National Institute of Health/United States Army, Bethesda, USA

This presentation will provide an overview of tropical infections, including their clinical presentations and diagnostic considerations. Challenges linked to the diagnosis of these infections will then be illustrated with clinical cases.

Session 2

Concrete evidence of a new diagnostic tool for improved patient management of Dengue in Western Africa (30 min)

Speaker

Potiandi Serge Diagbouga, PhD, Director of Research in Immunology & Microbiology,

Institut de Recherche en Sciences de la Santé du Centre National de Recherche Scientifique et Technologique, Burkina Faso

This session will cover the current epidemiology of Tropical Diseases in Western Africa, the clinical context, related challenges and highlighting the urgent need for accurate diagnostics. Dengue continues to pose a significant public health challenge in the region, the VIDAS® Dengue study provides clinicians with valuable evidence supporting the use of diagnostic tools for better patient management.

What you’ll gain by attending:

  • Understanding of syndromic approach benefits for Tropical Diseases
  • Insights on improving patient management in non-endemic areas
  • Real-world evidence and benefits of implementing a Dengue diagnostic strategy in endemic areas

Fast Syndromic Multiplex PCR Tests for Traveler Diseases

BIOFIRE® FILMARRAY® TORCH is a multiplex PCR system that enables simultaneous testing for bacteria, viruses, yeast, parasites, and/or antimicrobial resistant genes. It is designed to be used with comprehensive panels that each offer testing for sets of pathogens associated with some of today’s most pressing healthcare challenges.

The fast results offer the information needed to help primary care providers and emergency room physicians to better triage patients and make timely, confident medical decisions.

VIDAS®
DENGUE PANEL®

The VIDAS® DENGUE panel includes 3 serological tests recommended by international recommendations for precise and early diagnosis. Accessible to all laboratories, they allow rapid and reliable confirmation (or exclusion) of dengue infection for optimized patient care.

VIDAS®
CHIKUNGUNYA PANEL

As symptoms of chikungunya (fever, headache, muscle pain, joint swelling, rash or joint pain) overlap with those of other mosquito-borne diseases, such as dengue and malaria, differential diagnosis in endemic areas is essential for optimized patient management. The VIDAS® CHIKUNGUNYA panel offers a complete solution for rapid and reliable confirmation of chikungunya infection.

Syndromic Infectious Disease Testing for Tropical Fever Diseases

Defined as infections that are prevalent in or unique to tropical and subtropical regions, tropical fever infections often present with overlapping, non-specific signs and symptoms, making them challenging to diagnose. Their prevalence is expected to rise around the world as the impact of global climate change leads to conditions favorable to the spread of these diseases.1

The BIOFIRE® FILMARRAY® Tropical Fever (TF) Panel simultaneously tests for 6 target pathogens in about 50 minutes using a single test. It is designed for use on the BIOFIRE® FILMARRAY® TORCH System, an FDA-cleared, CE-IVD, and TGA certified multiplex PCR system that integrates sample preparation, amplification, detection, and analysis.
